Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and develop, test and maintain a cloud-based data management system, Ashoka Datalake, for multi-modal data
• Lead the design and development of features such as search, recommendation, versioning, GIS overlay and integration, and automated data ingestion
• Work with researchers and software developers to design and implement novel features and algorithms
• Support the Dataset Lead, Software Developers, and Data Executives in automation of data integration and curation
• Manage the work team

Qualifications and skills

• A 4-year Bachelor's degree in CS / EE or related field or higher qualification (Masters or more)
• At least 4 years of experience in Full-stack web development and DevOps
• Technical programming experience in Python and JavaScript
• Experience in implementing search systems, data integration and data analytics
• Ability to work with ML tools, LLMs, and other AI and GenAI technologies
• Ability to explain technical issues to non-technical stakeholders and excellent cross-functional coordination

7+ years' experience in the software industry

Key Responsibilities

• Assess and evaluate dataset availability and requirements in multiple social impact verticals such as politics, agriculture, energy, climate, public health, economics, etc.
• Understand dataset requirements from people working in various agencies / institutions in India (including departments & centers at Ashoka) and abroad
• Coordinate with private, public, and government bodies (including ministries) to assess and coordinate data needs and data availability
• Work as a liaison between Datalake Lead & Software Developers and the Data Executives to support automation of data extraction, curation and ingestion
• Help Data Executives to develop tools and methods to collect, curate, ingest, and maintain datasets in social impact areas
• Manage the work team

Qualifications and skills

• An undergraduate degree in Social / Physical / Health Science, Law, or Engineering or higher qualification (Masters or more)
• At least 2 years' experience in a position which includes programming
• At least 1 year of experience dealing with data collection and / or analytics in at least 2 different domains
• Fluency with Python programming, including the ability to:
  • Implement basic algorithms
  • Use libraries for web interactions
  • Basic data analysis using libraries such as pandas and matplotlib
• Excellent communication skills

Experience

2+ years' experience in organizations that regularly deal with large amounts of data, especially for social impact

• Setup and management of a cloud-based data management and visualisation system, Ashoka Datalake, for multi-modal data
• Setup and management of cloud infrastructure to support the activities of Ashoka's Datalake
• Interface with other departments & centres at Ashoka and / or external agencies to understand and support their data management needs
• Interface with Data Executives to support automation needs in curation and ingestion

Qualifications and skills

• A 4-year bachelor's degree in CS / EE or a related field or higher qualification (Masters or more)
• At least 2 years' experience as a software developer with:
  • Experience working with cloud infrastructure
  • Experience in web application development, including frontend and backend tools and website security
  • Experience in programming, including with Python and JavaScript

• Familiarity with Excel (for data management) and at least one of the data analytics tools like System R / Strata
• Familiarity with Python programming and automation, including:
  • Basic programming with use libraries for web interactions
  • Basic data analysis using libraries such as pandas and matplotlib
• Excellent communication skills
